The hill resort of Mussoorie is often referred to as the “Queen of the Hills”. Any tourist who experiences the magic of the hill resort will but agree with the sobriquet. Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, Mussoorie gets its name from the Mansur shrub that is commonly seen in the hill resort.

During pre-independence days a gun mounted on this top used to be fired heralding mid-day to enable people to adjust their watches and hence this name.

While at Mussoorie you may move ahead and visit the renowned Kempty Falls that are at a distance of just half an hour. The falls happens to be a favorite with the Indian film industry. The backdrop of the water falling and further getting divided into five waterfalls is simply spectacular.

Around Mussoorie you may visit the famous Surkhanda Devi Temple. The temple is at an amazing height of 10,000 feet. You need a stiff two-km climb to reach the temple.

Rishikund

Triveni Ghat:
It is a sacred spot where the pilgrims swarm to for a holy dip. A large number of pilgrims throng in to this place every evening to attend the Ganga Arti that takes place at this Ghat.

Geeta Bhawan:

Lakshman Jhula:
It is one of the most prominent landmarks at Rishikesh. This is a suspended bridge and was built in the year 1929. Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh and a major travel hill station in India. Shimla is also an important administrative centre. It has been variously described as the Indian Capua, Mount Olympus and the Abode of the Little Tin Gods.

The city spreads over a 12km ridge with just two main roads – The Mall which runs from the far west to the lower eastern side, and the Cart Road which circles the southern part of Shimla. This is where the railway station and the bus and taxi stands are located. The crescent of the wooded Ridge stretches from the lofty 2476 m high Jakhu Hill and Chhota Shimla in the east, to the Observatory (2,148 m) and Prospect hills (2,176 m) in the west. The best time to travel to Shimla is in autumn, when the days are warm and bright and the nights crisp and cool. Summer sees a burgeoning tourist population and this is precisely why you should avoid going there at this time.

Patnitop : Known For its beauty and serene

Relatively unknown, compared to the other tourist spots in the state Patnitop is no less beautiful or serene. If one is aiming to get away from it all for some time, this place is hard to beat.

How To Get There

Air : 127km from Almora, Pantnagar is the nearest airport. At present flights are however not operational.

Rail : Kathgodam (90km) is the nearest railhead with connection to Delhi, Howrah & Lucknow.

Road : Buses connect Almora with Kathgodam, Nainital (66km), Ranikhet, Pithoragarh(122km) & Delhi (380km) directly. There is also direct connection to Nepal Border, Banbassa (7 hours). Buses depart at a regular interval, every half of an hour for Kathgodam (3 hours). It takes about 2 hours to travel to Nainital & 4 hours to Pithoragarh. Infact road transportation is the most convenient way to travel to Airnora.

About The Place

At an altitude of 1638 meters and located on the ridge at the southern edge of the Kumaon Hills of the Himalayan range, Almora is at a distance of 380 km from Delhi. Introduction
