Devi Talab Mandir : devi.jpgIn Devi Talab, there is a large masonry 200 year old tank sacred to Hindus.The temple is situated at 1km away from the railway station.A picturesque of Amarnath Yatra has been carved out recently to add to the beauty of the temple.The whole temple has been renovated including the idol of Devi,and a new temple has been constructed in the middle.An old temple of goddess Kali is also located beside the temple of the Devi Talab. The gilded Mandir is famous for the Hariballabh Sangeet Sammelan is the major attraction of the place.It held every year in December at its precincts for the past 125 years. Famous classical music exponents – both instrumental and vocal come together and perform at this gathering.

Shiv Mandir : gur-mandi1.jpgShiv Mandir is located at Gur Mandi.Imam Nasir mausoleum is located nearby.The temple dates back to the Lodhi Era.The foundation of this temple is laid down by the Nawab of Sultanpur Lodhi.The main feature of this temple is that it is a blend of Muslim Hindu architecture. The main gate is carved in the style of a mosque while the rest of the building is in Hindu style.Acoording to the history,it is believed that when Jalandhar was Nawabs territory, he had eyed a newly married Hindu girl who was a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva.

Ludhiana experiences very hot summers and mild winters. Winter set in November,when the city experiences very cold climate during the night.The best time to visit Ludhiana is from February to mid April.The monsoon visits this city around July and extends up to the beginning of September.

Moti Bagh Palacemotibagh.jpg : The palace was founded in the early 20th century,Its construction was started during the reign of Maharaja Narinder Singh and it was completed under Maharaja Bhupinder Singh . The Old Moti Bagh Palace now encompasses the National Institute for Sports. The facade is adorned using Rajasthan-style jharokas and chhatris.The palace is located admist a beautiful garden with terraces, water channels and a Sheesh Mahal.

Sheesh Mahal : sheeh_mahal.jpgThe Sheesh Mahal was located behind the Moti Bagh Palace to serve as a pleasure complex. The paintings in two of its well maintained , mirror-worked chambers are of Kangra and Rajasthani qalam.The paintings depict the poetic visions of Keshav, Surdas and Bihari.The Sheesh Mahal also encompasses a museum, an art gallery, and also the North Zone Cultural Centre set up by a society to preserve art.

Qila Androon : Androon is a single interconnected building,however it is considered as a series of palaces.The series of rooms form a cluster around the courtyard and each holds a name:Sheesh Mahal, Toshakhana, Jalau Khana, Chand Mahal, Rang Mahal, Treasury and Prison.In a tiny portion of the complex is a little British construction which displays Gothic arches and fire places carved out of marble.The entrance is through an imposing gate. The architectural style of this palace is a synthesis of late Mughal and Rajasthani.Burj Baba Ala Singh even today has a fire smoldering ever since the time of Baba Ala Singh, along with a flame brought by him from Jwalaji.

Lakshman Jhoola : Lakshman Jlakshmanjhoola.jpghoola is located across the small Lake in front of Sheesh Mahal.It is a magnificent suspension bridge.It forms a replica of the famous Lakshman Jhoola at Rishikesh and therefore is also named as Lachman Jhoola.It links the Sheesh Mahal with the Banasar Ghar on the other side of the lake. The Banasar Ghar now houses the North Zone Cultural Center.

Diwan Khana : This hall is used for holding important public occasions. The Darbar has been transformed into a museum exhibiting dazzling chandeliers and armor, including the sword and dagger of Guru Gobind Singh.It also displays Nadir Shah’s sword. The hall was built on a high platform over a network of tunnels . The delicately worked wood-and-glass doors open into a huge 15m-high chamber.The ceiling is hung with a fabled collection of chandeliers.At the far end of the chamber is a raised platform, where the Maharaja used to sit.

Patiala district is one of the famous princely states of erstwhile Punjab.It is surrounded by the districts of Fatehgarh Sahib & Rupnagar and Chandigarh in the north, Sangrur district in the west, Ambala and Kurukshetra districts in the east and Kaithal district in the south.Patiala is located on the National Highway #1 (Delhi-Amritsar) and is about 250 Km from Delhi.

Time To Visit

The summer season extends from March to June.The monsoon set in month of July and extends till the end of August.The winters are cool and pleasant.The best time to visit Patiala is from February to mid April.

Amritsar is located in northern Punjab. It lies 15 miles(25km) away from Indo-Pak border. Amritsar is an important city in Punjab and is a major commercial, cultural, and transportation centre. It is also the centre of Sikhism and the site of the Sikh’s principal place of worship.The city has derived its name from Amrit Sarovar which means a Pool of Nectar.

Golden Temple : The Golden temple also known as Harmander Sahib is located in the holy city of the Sikhs, Amritsar. The Golden temple is one of the most sacred pilgrim goldentemple.jpgspots for Sikhs.The dome is carved out of pure gold.The temple was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh who used 400 kg of gold leaf to built the upper half of the building.Sri Harmandir Sahib, is built on a 67ft. square platform in the centre of the Sarovar(tank). Golden Temple was founded by the fourth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Ramdas and completed by his successor Guru Arjan Dev.The place has mythological sinificance, Sage Valmiki wrote the epic, Ramayana here.Akal Takhat located at right side preserves a number of weapons used by Guru Hargobind, Guru Gobind Singh and other Sikh heroes .To the south a nine-storeyed tower Baba Atal is located.The ‘Guru Ka Langar’ offers cooked food 24 hours to all visitors irrespective of religion, caste, creed and nationality.Guru Ram Das niwas and Guru Nank niwas offers accomodation facilities to the pilgrims.The Central Sikh Museum has paintings of Sikh Gurus, Saints, Sikh warriors and other prominent Sikh leaders who have in their own way contributed a lot to the enhancement of Sikh Religion.

Jallianwala Bagh jallian.jpg: Jallianwala Bagh is located near Golden Temple. The place holds historical significance.After Mangal Pandey blew the bugle for commencing the struggle for independence, General Dyer made a law that no Indian will be allowed to hold gatherings or processions.On 13 April 1919,thousands of Punjabis gathered from nearby places to celebrate the Baisakhi. As the communication system was underdeveloped at that time, they were not informed regarding this law. Taking it as a violation of the law, General Dyer entered in the Park with his troops and open fired on all the innocent men women and children present there.The historical happening was given the name Jallianwala Bagh massacre.Some people were shot dead, some were wounded, and a majority of the people tried to jump in the well to escape the death form the hands of foreign power. There is no accurate data of number of people died and wounded in this event.

Durgiana Templedurgiana1.jpg : Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya laid the foundation of this temple.The temple is designed on the lines of Golden Temple and is a revered place for Hindus. It is located outside the Lohgarh Gate. The Temple stands amidst a tank.The Temple is also known as Lakshmi Narayan Mandir. Primarily the Temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga; therefore it is called Durgiana Temple. Though Durga is the main deity, most of the temple’s imagery centers around Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna.

rambagh.jpgRam Bagh : The garden is located in the new part of town.It holds a tribute to Guru Ram Das,the fourth sikh guru and the founder of the city of Amritsar.It also has a museum in the summer palace built by the Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780-1839) the Lion of Punjab. The museum exihibits weapons dating back to Mughal times and some paintings of the ruling houses of the Punjab and a replica of the diamond ‘Kohinoor’.Ram Bagh also holds a lively statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh saddled on a horse.

tarntaran.jpgTarn Taran : This tank is located at 25kms south of Amritsar. The tank was constructed by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.It encompasses a temple and holds a tower on the east side. It is said that if anyone swim across the whole tank are miraculously cured.

Dharamshala : It is located at a distance of 200 kilometres from Amritsar in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is also known as the present home of Dalai Lama. This wonderful and picturesque hill station is characterised by magnificent deodar and pine forests, tea gardens and beautiful hills. Mc Leodganj (10 km), the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute, Bhagsunath (11 km), St. John’s Church (8 km),the Kunal Pathri (3 km) and the War Memorial (2 km from the town centre) are some of the major places to visit in Dharamshala.

Gobindwal Sahib : gobindwalsahib.jpgIt is located at a distance of 30 kilometres from Amritsar.Gobindwal Sahib is another place to visit during excursion from Amritsar. It encompasses final resting place of Guru Angad Devji that stands nearby.

Rock Garden

rockgarden.jpg The Rock Garden was first opened to public in 1976 .This tourist spot extends over an area of 64 acres covering some 20 acres of woods. It symbolizes man’s effort, love, ingenuity and strong determination over work. The garden is situated between the Capitol Complex and Sukhna Lake in Sector 1, it .The idea of this garden was conceived by an ordinary public works department employee of the Chandigarh administration,Nek Chand who built this garden for the disposal of city waste and domestic garbage. The pecularity of this garden is that there are no flowers or plants in this garden it was created sector by sector with rocks and discarded objects like bottle tops, fluorescent lights, mud guard, tin cans, broken glass, building waste etc which Nek Chand assembled from door to door and turn them into amazing figures of dolls and birds, men and women and set them along a maze of paths. The Rock Garden has 14 different chambers, all juxtaposed to create a dream world of palaces, soldiers, monkeys, village life, women and temples. During the Teej festival in August the garden obtains a festive look and holds a special attraction for tourists worldwide. The timings are from 10.00 a.m to 7.00 p.m for all days. The entry fee is Rs.10 for adults and Rs.5 for children.

Sukhna Lake

sukhnalake.jpg The French architect Le Corbusier also laid the foudation of this lake in the year 1958 by moderating the course of Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream that flows down the Shivalik mountain ranges.It extends over 3 square kilometers on the northern border of Chandigarh.Sukhna Lake is an artificial,man-made lake in the foothills of Shivalik range.It is an idyllic resort for communing with nature and for water sports such as boating and water skiing.It is a sanctuary and houses many exotic migratory birds. During winters many species of aquatic birds from Central Asia and Siberia migrates to this area and serve as a major source of attraction.The Government of India has declared this lake as a protected national wet land.This lake also serve as a centre during festive celebrations.The tourist can visit the lake on all days.

The Capitol Complex

It groups three main geometrical buildings the Legislative Assembly, the High Court, and the Secretariat separated by large piazzas.It serves as a headquarters of both Punjab and Haryana .The complex also edifices a number of monuments based on Corbusier’s personal philosophy.
Leisure Valley.The Capitol Complex was designed by famous architect Le Corbusier in Sector 1 who also designed the whole city of chandigarh.The scenario is of breath taking beauty.

The Open Hand Monument

open.jpg Open Hand monument is constructed out of a metal sheet which is 14 metres in height and weighs 50 tonnes. It rotate freely in the wind from a high concrete pedestal. The French architect Le Corbusier is accredited for designing this giant hand emblem.It is located in the Capitol Complex in sector 1.The hand rises 85 feet from an excavated plaza, the fosse de la consideration.It serves as a pit of contemplation, and is used for debate on public affairs Some times it looks like a bird who is flying and herefore symbolizes peace and unity – ‘Open to give – Open to receive’. It is the official emblem of the city.

However this beautiful city does not belong to either of the states.of gardens.The city was set against the backdrop of the great Siwalik mountains, It was considered as a union territory on 1st November, 1966 and is administered by the Government of India.It is divided into various sectors and has well-laid roads lined with rows of trees and beautifully planned buildings.
