Jajmau

In ancient times Jajmau was known as Siddhapuri.It is believed that Jajmau has been the kingdom of Yayati,the Pauranic king and the high mound overhanging the Ganga is regarded as the site of his fort.At present Jajmau houses the Siddhnath and Siddha Devi temples.The mausoleum of Makhdum Shah Ala-ul-Haq, the famous Sufi saint, built by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in 1358 and a mosque built by Kulich Khan in 1679 are also situated here.Excavations of the mound of Jajmau were done during 1957-58, which unearthed antiquities ranging from 600 BC to 1600 AD.

Shri Radhakrishna Temple (J.K. Temple)

Jain Glass Temple

Allen Forest Zoo

The Kanpur Zoo was established in the year 1971.It ranks first among the best zoos in the country. It is regarded as a best place for outdoor life and picnics in the midst of picturesque surroundings.

The Kanpur Memorial Church (All Soul’s Cathedral)

The Kanpur Memorial Church has been built in Lombardic Gothic Style.The church was constructed in the year 1875.It was a dedication for those British who lost their lives in the war of 1857. Walter Granville, architect of the East Bengal Railway has been accredited for designing the model of this church. It is made of bright red brick, with polychrome dressings. The interiors of the church contain monuments to the mutiny, including several memorial tablets.

Kamla Retreat

Kamla Retreat is situated to the west of the Agricultural College.This beautiful estate is owned by Singhania family. The well-lit swimming pool, wherein artificial waves are created is a most fascinating site of this place.There is a parks and a canal with facilities for boating in this area along with a zoo . Kamla Retreat also houses a museum, which has a wonderful collection of historical and archaeological artifacts.

Phool Bagh

Nana Rao Park

Nana Rao Park is located to the west of Phool Bagh. It is the site of the `Bibighar’ of 1857. After independence, the park was renamed as Nana Rao Park.

Harcourt Butler Technological Institute:

The Harcourt Butler Technological Institute is also located in this city.The institute imparts knowledge in technical training and industrial research.It was established in the year 1920 at Kanpur.

Indian Institute of Technology:

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur is one of the five major IIT’s in the country. IIT, Kanpur was set up in the year 1959. It provides education in the fields of engineering, technology, science and humanities.

Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology:

It was established in the year 1957.Its basic aim is to provide education in field of agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary science for the benefit of rural people.

Patna is located on the southern bank of the Ganga river. The Mahatma Gandhi Setu which is regarded as one of the longest bridges in the world stretches upto 7.5km, crosses the Ganga river, 5 km to the west of the city. It is the capital city of Bihar. It is an important business centre in eastern India .On the other hand it is also an entrance for the Budhist and Jain pilgrim centres situated in Bodhgaya, Nalanda, Vaishali, Rajgir and Pawapuri. Patna is airlinked with cities like Calcutta, New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. It is linked with cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Calcutta and many other major cities by means of railway. There are regular inter-state bus services with connects bihar with Patna.

Patna Museum

museum.jpg Patna Museum is considered as an excellent museum as it is ornated with metal and stone sculptures. Its origin can be traced back to the Maurya and Gupta periods.It is a place where one can came across terracotta figures and archaeological finds from sites such as Nalanda. The meseum also houses the world’s longest fossilised tree, which is 16 metres in height and 200 million years old.

Golghar

Captain John Garstin laid the foundation of this building at the command of the British administrator Warren Hastings in July 1786. This amazing beehive shaped building served as a granary during terrible famine of 1770. A flight of steps winds round this 29m high building leads to the top from where one gets a fine view of the river Ganga and beautiful city of Patna.

Har Mandir

This is one of the holiest Sikh shrines in the state.This shrine consecrates the birthplace of the tenth religious preceptor of the Sikh faith, Guru Gobind Singh who was bornin the year 1660.It is carved entirely of white marble.Originally built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, a ruler of Punjab, Harmandirji is one of the holiest Sikh shrines . It is located in the Chowk area of Old Patna.This dome shaped structure contains Sikh scriptures and the personal belongings of the guru.

State Museum

The museum is located at Buddha Marg. The major attraction of the museum is a rare collection of coins, paintings, terracotta, bronze and stone sculptures of the Maurya and Gupta periods. The Museum houses well renowned Mauryan Didarganji Yakshi (3rd century BC).It also icludes collection such as Ashes of Buddha, a First World War cannon, Jain sculpture and archeological finds from Bodh Gaya, Nalanda and Kukrihar. One can come across the Tibetan and Chinese sections where one can see 15 meter long fossil tree. The mezzanine floor contains the Tibetan ‘Thankas’.

Khuda Baksh Oriental Library

library.jpg Khuda Baksh Oriental Library is one of the national libraries of India.It was set up at the turn of the century in the year 1900.The library has a distinguished collection of rare Arabic and Persian manuscripts, Rajput and Mughal paintings and oddities like an inch-wide Quran.The library also houses the only books rescued from the plunder of the University of Cordoba in Spain

Kumrahar

kumrahar_patna.jpg Kumrahar is the site of the ancient city of Pataliputra.It is located on the Kankarbagh Road which is 5 km from Patna Railway Station. Excavations here have revealed relics of four continuous periods from 600 BC to 600 AD. The fifth period begins from 1600 AD. The 80pillared huge hall of the Mauryan dynasty is regarded as an important find.

Gulzaribagh

It is situated at 8 kms far from Golghar near Kumrahar. This site was use for warehousing old opium of former East India Company.

The city is named after the goddess of power, Chandi Devi.The French architect Le Corbusier laid the foudation of this city.It is regarded as the first planned modern city in India and serves as the capital of both Punjab and Haryana. However this beautiful city does not belong to either of the states.of gardens.The city was set against the backdrop of the great Siwalik mountains, It was considered as a union territory on 1st November, 1966 and is administered by the Government of India.It is divided into various sectors and has well-laid roads lined with rows of trees and beautifully planned buildings.

Tombs of Ahmed Shah and His Queens

The tomb( Badshah-no Hajiro) of Ahmed Shah; the founder of the city is situated in the east of the Jama Masjid.The tomb is square in shape.It has porticos on each side and has perforated stone windows.Women are not allowed into the central chamber. Rani-no Hajiro is the place where the queens of subsequent Sultans were buried.it is located opposite the Hajiro.

Bhadra Fort and Teen Darwaja

bhadra_fort.jpgBhadra Fort was built in the year1411 by Ahmed Shah,the founder of the city .it was later renamed Bhadra after the goddess with the same, an incarnation of Kali. The fort has royal palaces and a garden . It now houses government offices. The triple gateway or Teen Darwaja, is located to the east of the fort .It is used as standsfrom by sultans to watch processions from the palace to the Jama Masjid. The royal entrance is triple arched and richly carved.

Huthising Temple

Ahmedbad also contains a number of Hindu and Jain temples. The Jain shrine, known as the Huthising temple, is one of them. This temple is named after Shri Kesarising Huthising who constructed it in 1848.the temple serves as dedication to Dharmanath, the 15th Jain Tirtankra

Narayan Temple

narayatemple.jpgThe Narayan Temple is enclosed in a large courtyard, it dates from 1850. To the south of this Hindu Temple are the nine tombs known as the Nau Gaz Pir, or Nine Yard Saints.The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

Shahi bag

Shahi Bag (the royal garden) was constructed by the great builder, Shah Jahan in the year 1622 A.D.Shahi Bag is now used as a royal residence to the State Governer, .The palace is also associated with the poet Rabindranath Tagore who as a boy stayed here with his elder brother ,before leaving his famous story “The hungry stones “(Kshudhit Pashan)

Knakaria lake

Sultan Ahmed Shah laid the foundation of Kankaria.The garden Nagina Wadi (means beautiful garden in Urdu) is located in the center of the lake. Kankaria Zoo & Balvatika. Zoo are well known entertainment spots .The best time to visit the place is evening. Lightings and special effects in the walkway and sumptuous food of the restaurants in the central garden often attract the tourist worldwide . Kankaria is renowned for its junk food in the entire province of Gujarat.

Step wells

In era of the Sultanate, the authorities use to develop wells for travelers as a place to rest or to drink water. The finest example are Dada Hari ni Vav and the Adalaj ni Vav. It has intricately carved walls, pillars and the steps lead down to different levels and ends in a small well.The interiors of these caves are paved with beautiful carvings in stone.

Sabarmati Ashram

sabarmati-ashram.jpgSabarmati Ashram lies on the tranquil stretch of the Sabarmati river and is referred to as the Satyagraha Ashram.Mahatma Gandhi began his famous ‘Dandi March’ to protest against the Salt Tax imposed by the British. Mahatma Gandhi is credited for laying the foundation of this Ashram in the year 1915. It is a very peaceful place with simple rooms exhibiting the great man’s biography,photographs, quotes and paintings .The Gandhi Ashram has a memorial centre, library and a Sound-and-Light (Son et Lumiere) spectacle to offer to its visitors. There’s also a bookshop selling books by and about Mahatma. The small house in the Ashram where Mahatma Gandhi lived ‘Hridaya Kunj’ is preserved as a national monument.The ashram remains open from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm.

Gwalior is a city in Madhya Pradesh in India. It lies 122 km south of Agra with a population of 690,342. gwalior.jpgAt the heart of Gwalior is its fortress (Gwalior Fort), built by Raja Man Singh Tomar, of the Tomar dynasty. There are many impressive sculptures, which were defaced by Babur’s forces and renovated later. The images are in five main groups. Teli Ka Mandir has distinct pattern which integrates a Dravidian roof with Indo-Aryan decorations. Sculptures adorn the utmost part of temple. Man Singh Palace also known as the Chit Mandir or Painted Palace is ornated by paintings of ducks, peacocks and elephants. The other palaces are Karan Palace or Kirti Mandir, Jehangir Mahal and Shan Jahan Mahal. The palace has a large tank Jauhar Kund where the Rajput women of the harem carried out mass sati or self-immolation after the Raja was defeated in battle in 1232.

The palace and the fort of Tipu Sultan is well renowed for its beautifully carved arches in Islamic style and for the well preserved Ganapati temple.. The palace has its origin to Kempe Gowda who built the temple in 1537. Later it was extended and fortified by Tipu Sultan.The fort and its remains present the struggle of Tipu Sultan against British domination.The historical incidence of imprisonment of David Baird along with a number of British army officers by Hyder Ali, Tipu’s father bear its testimony here.

Lal Bagh Gardens

Lal Bagh is regarded as one of India’s most beautiful botanical garden.The garden extends upto 240 acre. Vidhan Soudha, built in the year 1954 and serves as a major tourist attraction in Bangalore.The architecture of this edifice is based on the neo Dravidian style and serve as a tribute to temple architecture.Presently, it houses the Legislative Assembly of the state of Karnataka having 46 meter high seat of the government and therefore is regarded as Bangalore ’s best known landmark. Mr. Kengal Hanumanthaiah the then chief minister of Mysore decided to construct the Vidhana Soudha in Indian style of architecture.
