General Information

It is relatively unknown, compared to the other tourist spots in the state Patnitop is no less beautiful or serene. If one is aiming to get away from it all for some time, this place is hard to beat.

In recent times the place which has really come up as a tourist destination in J&K is Patnitop. This beautiful place is 112 kms from Jammu. It is located on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. So access to this place is very easy. In fact Patnitop was a picnic spot for residents of Jammu. Later on it was taken up by JKTDC and developed as a tourist destination. JKTDC has provided this place with tourist facilities and is promoting this place in a big way. There are discount and special offers too. Patnitop is usually covered with snow during winter, thus providing a good opportunity for winter sports. The whole area is surrounded by thick forest. It situated on a plateau. Altitude of this place is 2024 meters from the sea level. The climate is cool through out the year. Patnitop with its peaceful walks and breathtaking views is an ideal place for honeymooners.

Picturesquely situated at a high altitude, there are many pleasant walks around this popular hill station. Patnitop is a good starting place for many short or longer treks into the nearby mountains. An attractive one-day walk is to Shiva Garh, about 11-km from Patnitop at an altitude of almost 3,500 metres.

Sanasar

It is 119 kms. from Jammu and only 17 kms. from Patnitop, Sanasar is cup shaped meadow surrounded by gigantic conifers. A place for a quite holiday, the meadow has now been developed as a golf course. It also provides opportunities for para-gliding.
